Wayland Planning Board reelects officers, braces for state-driven zoning overhaul

WAYLAND — May 27, 2026 — Wayland Planning Board reelects its slate and warns of a state-driven zoning crunch. Members voted 4-0 to keep Anette S. Lewis as chair, Robin Borgstedt as vice chair and Jesse Newberry as clerk, with Lewis saying she would "relinquish" the gavel midyear if Borgstedt becomes available. Town Planner Robert Hummel and Lewis flagged 225 CMR 29.00, which takes effect July 1 and requires a consolidated local permitting program by Oct. 1, plus a 12-month decision clock that collides with the town's 60-day site plan deadline. Lewis also said Gov. Healey's House Bill 5386 would force a fourth straight year of site plan bylaw rewrites. The board separately voted 5-0 to appoint Borgstedt to the Wayland Housing Partnership and set an 8 a.m. May 29 site walk at 1 Hobbs Road.
