Wayland Health Department issues tick-safety advisory as warm weather returns

WAYLAND — The Wayland Health Department issued a tick-safety advisory Tuesday morning, the most consequential item out of Town Hall in this cycle, as residents head outdoors for the warming spring. Across town, Vokes Players' run of "Jesus Christ Superstar" enters its final week, and commercial outlets are tracking a black bear sighting in a Wayland neighborhood.

TOWN HALL The Health Department on Tuesday morning reminded residents to take precautions against tick-borne illnesses as warmer weather returns. The department is urging the standard playbook — light-colored clothing, repellent, tick checks after time outdoors, and prompt removal — and pointing residents to its guidance posted on the town website. COMMUNITY & ARTS Vokes Players' production of "Jesus Christ Superstar," directed by Jennifer Gasser with music direction by Shane Stecher, is in its closing stretch at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre on Boston Post Road. The Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical wraps its run Saturday, May 16, after opening May 1.

Vokes also announced a special concert presentation outside its regular season: "1776 In Concert," produced with the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department as part of the town's semi-quincentennial celebration. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. June 12 and 13 at Wayland High School.

At the Council on Aging, Director Julie Secord's office reminded seniors that the Community Center at 8 Andrew Ave. will be closed Tuesday, May 19, and Monday, May 25, for the Memorial Day holiday. The May newsletter is now posted to the COA page.
