Weston Unified Plan Committee Approves Land Use Draft, Deadlocks on Housing Vision
WESTON — May 11, 2026 — Weston's Unified Plan Committee approved its land use draft but could not resolve a fundamental housing policy split at its May 11 meeting. Subcommittee member Bob Engler told the committee he had been unable to produce a unified housing draft, proposing instead that the plan present two diverging viewpoints rather than force what he called "a false marriage." Member Lori Hess pushed back, calling housing "the single biggest and most important issue" and warning against what she termed an "abdication" of the committee's responsibility. The committee did reach consensus on recommending consolidation of Weston's multiple housing bodies — including the Affordable Housing Trust, Council on Aging, and Elderly Housing Committee — into a single umbrella entity. The group also noted the state's Community Preservation Act match has fallen to roughly 17 percent in 2025, down from near 87 percent at inception. The overall plan, originally targeted for completion in August, is now projected to finish in late 2026 or early 2027, with the next meeting set for May 26.
