Weston Unified Plan Committee Adopts MAPC Demographic Projections With One Abstention

WESTON — June 22, 2026 — Weston Unified Plan Committee adopts MAPC demographic baseline despite a 732-unit gap in the projections. The committee voted four to zero with one abstention at its June 22 meeting to use the Metropolitan Area Planning Council's figures as its working baseline for both the unified plan and housing production plan, even as members acknowledged the projections do not account for 732 confirmed or near-confirmed new housing units — 380 at a Boston Properties Chapter 3A development, 172 at the Modera project at 751 Boston Post Road, and 180 at 518 South Avenue, with a potential 215-unit Regis College project still unresolved. Leon, a Select Board participant attending remotely, confirmed the board planned to discuss commissioning a town-wide demographic study at its June 23 meeting, though he cautioned the timing "might not work" for the unified plan or housing production plan deadlines. MAPC projects Weston growing from roughly 4,000 housing units today to 4,270 by 2030 and 4,372 by 2040, figures members described as plausible but incomplete. The committee also spent the second half of the session reviewing a draft housing issues-and-opportunities section line by line, agreeing to soften language around "damage to neighborhoods," clarify distinctions between tax rates and tax bills, add residents looking to downsize to the list of those underserved by the current housing market, and flag that the 10 percent Subsidized Housing Inventory threshold will be recalculated after the 2030 census.
