Town Sets July 30 Public Meeting on 195 Main Street Environmental Testing
The town has scheduled a public meeting for July 30 on environmental testing at the vacant 195 Main Street site — the former Department of Public Works garage — while separately calling for a volunteer to help shape the future of Fire Department staffing.
TOWN HALL
The town announced Tuesday that a Public Involvement Plan meeting will be held July 30, 2026, to update residents on environmental testing at 195 Main Street, the long-idle former DPW garage on Main Street. The PIP process is a standard step under Massachusetts environmental law that gives the public a formal role in decisions about contaminated or potentially contaminated sites. Details on time, location, and how to participate are available at the town's alert page (https://www.wayland.ma.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=81).
Separately, the town is seeking one volunteer to serve on the Fire Department Staffing Working Group, which is reviewing recommendations from a recent staffing study. Interested residents can find information at https://www.wayland.ma.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=80.
Town Manager Michael McCall will hold open office hours on Monday, June 29. The Health Department also issued its annual summer safety reminders, urging residents to take precautions as warm-weather hazards ramp up. Town offices are observing a summer schedule: Monday hours run 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the offices are closed Fridays.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Wayland Museum & Historical Society opened its new exhibit "Little Liberties" with a reception on June 21, and the show is now on view during regular museum hours (Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. to noon, Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at 12 Cochituate Road. The museum's ongoing "Tracing Liberty" series continues this weekend: a family storytime tied to a public reading of Frederick Douglass is set for Saturday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m., and a full community reading of "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" follows Tuesday, June 30, at 7 p.m. — co-presented with the Wayland Free Public Library. The Tracing Liberty nature walk for June is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, at 9 a.m. at Dudley Woods Trail, Pond Drive and Doran Road.
The library is hosting a Collage Journaling drop-in workshop today, June 23 — participants can bring their own journal or use one provided, along with paper materials supplied by the library. Register at waylandlibrary.org. On Thursday, June 26, singer Erica from Parody Playhouse brings a music-and-movement program for families with children up to age 6 to Hannah Williams Park, 71 Main Street.
The Vokes Players are in production for their summer show: "Over the River and Through the Woods," a comedy by Joe DePietro directed by David Berti, runs July 24 through August 8 at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre, 97 Boston Post Road. Tickets are available at vokesplayers.org.
The Council on Aging is promoting its 15th Annual Summer Concert Series; residents can sign up for the COA's weekly email for program details at the COA page or by calling 508-358-2990.
