Weston Historical Commission Approves Bell Tower Repairs, Eight Hemlock Road Renovations
WESTON — May 5, 2026 — Weston's Historical Commission approved repairs to St. Julia's Church bell tower and advanced a scaled-back renovation at a historic Boston Post Road property at its May 5 meeting, while a looming insurance dispute threatened to derail the sale of an 1757 home subject to a town preservation restriction. Commission member Henry S. Stone, Jr., who also serves on the Select Board, agreed to seek an urgent legal opinion from town counsel on whether the board could issue a one-time waiver of a deed restriction clause requiring the town be named as an additional insured on the homeowner's policy — language no carrier the owners contacted, including Chubb, will accommodate, with a June 1 closing date bearing down. The commission voted unanimously to approve precast panel replacement and a new copper drip cap on the deteriorating belfry at St. Julia's Church, and unanimously approved a reduced-scope phase-two renovation for 8 Hemlock Road after owner Michael Nurensky cited costs "two and a half times" pre-pandemic levels. Separately, co-chair Phyllis Halpern reported the Select Board has named a preferred buyer for the Case Estates historic buildings — two families whose combined bid reached $2.4 million, topping a field of 10 to 11 proposals.
