Weston Historical Commission Amends Hayfields Preservation Restriction Insurance Requirement

WESTON — May 20, 2026 — Weston Historical Commission votes unanimously to fix an uninsurable preservation deed restriction at the historic Hayfields property. The commission held a brief emergency remote meeting May 20 to address a clause in the preservation deed restriction at 823 Boston Post Road requiring the Town of Weston to be named as an interested party on the property's insurance policy — a condition that Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern said no reputable insurer would accept. The four members present — Halpern, Ford Curran, John Thompson, and Kathryn Scadden — voted 4-0 to approve an amendment to paragraph 9 of the restriction, drafted by town counsel with involvement from the town manager and Select Board, and to authorize Halpern to sign on the commission's behalf. The commission also voted 4-0 to accept a compliance memo finding the property otherwise in conformance with its preservation guidelines, with one minor notation for electrical boxes, air conditioning units, and a generator on the west side of the house that were present before the current owners took possession.
