Wayland town, police issue joint statement on Michigan synagogue attack

WAYLAND — Town officials and the Wayland Police Department released a joint statement Tuesday morning addressing the March attack on a synagogue in Michigan, the day's most prominent communication from Town Hall as residents return from the Memorial Day weekend.

TOWN HALL The Town of Wayland and the Police Department posted a statement Tuesday on the CivicAlerts feed addressing the March attack on a synagogue in Michigan. The notice, dated May 26, was the only fresh item on the town's news flash and signals coordination between municipal leadership and law enforcement on community safety messaging. COMMUNITY & ARTS The Wayland Museum & Historical Society's "Tracing Liberty" series continues Sunday, May 31, with the next installment of its "Walk, Wonder, and Discover!" outing. The 9 a.m. walk gathers at the Lake Cochituate Town Beach, 25 Parkland Drive. The free program is part of the museum's yearlong slate of Rev250 history talks and nature walks tied to the country's semiquincentennial.

Vokes Players is finalizing two upcoming productions at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre. The community theater will join the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department to present a concert version of "1776 the Musical" at the high school on June 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m., a program produced outside the company's regular season. Vokes' summer mainstage is Joe DiPietro's family comedy "Over the River and Through the Woods," directed by David Berti and running July 24 through Aug. 8.

The Council on Aging notes its May newsletter is available, and the COA office at 8 Andrew Ave. resumed regular hours Tuesday after closing Monday for Memorial Day.
