Sudbury returns from Memorial Day with half-staff order and new Senior Center hours
SUDBURY — The town returned to a normal schedule Tuesday after the Memorial Day weekend, with U.S. and Massachusetts flags ordered to half-staff by gubernatorial direction and the Senior Center moving onto its new summer hours. A Goodnow Book Nook spring sale and an Anti-Hate Anti-Bias Taskforce meeting both arrive Wednesday and Thursday.
TOWN HALL
The Town Clerk's office relayed a half-staff notification issued in accordance with 4 U.S.C. § 7(m), under which Gov. Maura Healey ordered the United States and Commonwealth flags lowered at all state buildings. The order took effect Sunday, May 24, and Sudbury municipal buildings are observing it. Residents who fly the flag at home are encouraged to follow the same protocol.
SCHOOLS
Sudbury Public Schools is promoting the Goodnow Book Nook Spring Book Sale, posted Wednesday, May 27, as the next community-facing event on the district calendar. The district also pushed out a notice for an Anti-Hate Anti-Bias Taskforce meeting set for Thursday, May 28.
The district is reminding families that the Summer Program SMILE & EXPLORE student information form is due Friday, May 29. Kindergarten "K troops" are also forming for the Fall 2026 school year at Haynes, Loring, Nixon and Noyes. Looking ahead within the building, the next School Committee meeting is Monday, June 1, and an early release plus Kindergarten Orientation are both slated for Wednesday, June 3.

COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Sudbury Senior Center, closed Monday for Memorial Day, reopened Tuesday on its new summer schedule, in effect May 1 through Sept. 30: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Registration for programs runs through (978) 443-3055.
Community organizations continue to push outdoor programming for early June. HOPEsudbury is promoting its Fishing Derby & Fun Day, and an Adaptive Rail Trail Ride is set for Saturday, June 6, with participants invited through the district's community notices.
