Wayland Select Board accepts $1.4 million FEMA grant for Snake Brook Dam

WAYLAND — March 23, 2026 — Wayland Select Board accepts long-stalled $1.4 million FEMA grant for Snake Brook Dam rehab. The board voted 5-0 Monday to accept the $1,402,809.76 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program award and authorize Town Manager Michael McCall to sign all related documents; the federal share covers 61 percent of the $2,286,375 project, with the town's $883,565.24 match already backed by a $1.4 million real estate reserve appropriation and roughly $800,000 in state funds. McCall called the timing "most fortuitous" because construction had not yet started, and credited Conservation Administrator Linda Hansen and Sen. Edward Markey's office for pushing the paperwork through repeated federal shutdowns. Reimbursements will flow back to town reserves, McCall said. The board also voted 5-0 to approve a Common Victualler License for Mission Hill Donuts at 289 Boston Post Road, a Dunkin' / Jimmy John's combo targeting an April 15 opening.
