Wayland police warn of black bear sighted in town neighborhood
WAYLAND — Wayland police are warning residents about a black bear roaming a local neighborhood, the most-talked-about local item of the day, while the Vokes Players' sold-out production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" heads into its final week at the Boston Post Road theater.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Vokes Players' production of "Jesus Christ Superstar," with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, is playing now through May 16 at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre at 97 Boston Post Road. The run is sold out, according to the company's website. The production is directed by Jennifer Gasser, with Shane Stecher as music director.
Vokes also announced a June concert tied to Wayland's semiquincentennial observance. In partnership with the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department, the company will present a concert version of Peter Stone and Stuart Ostrow's "1776 the Musical" at Wayland High School on June 12 and June 13 at 7:30 p.m. The production sits outside the regular Vokes season.
At the Council on Aging, the May 2026 newsletter is now posted on the town site. The COA, based at the Community Center at 8 Andrew Avenue, has flagged two upcoming building closures: Monday, May 19, and Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day). Director Julie Secord's office can be reached at 508-358-2990 for program details.
