Wayland Museum Opens "Little Liberties" Exhibit With Free Summer Solstice Reception

The Wayland Museum & Historical Society opens its newest exhibit, "Little Liberties," with a free public reception tonight, June 21, and the Health Department is urging residents to stay safe as the first full week of summer gets underway.

TOWN HALL

With summer now officially here, town offices moved to their seasonal schedule this week. Town Hall will be open Mondays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and closed Fridays. Residents should plan any in-person business accordingly. Full details are posted at the town's News Flash page (https://www.wayland.ma.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=78).

Separately, the Wayland Health Department issued its annual summer safety reminder, urging residents to take precautions against heat, sun exposure, and other warm-weather risks as the season ramps up (https://www.wayland.ma.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?aid=77).

COMMUNITY & ARTS

Tonight is the opening reception for "Little Liberties," the Wayland Museum & Historical Society's newest exhibit at 12 Cochituate Road. The event is free and open to all — a fitting launch on the first day of summer.

The museum also has a busy stretch ahead in its "Tracing Liberty" series. A family-friendly "Reading Frederick Douglass Together" storytime is set for Saturday, June 27, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., followed by an evening discussion on Tuesday, June 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, June 28, the series continues with a Walk, Wonder, and Discover! nature walk at Dudley Woods Trail, Pond Drive and Doran Road, starting at 9 a.m. All Tracing Liberty events are free.

The Wayland Free Public Library has its own slate of upcoming programs. A Collage Journaling workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23 — the library will provide small journals, or participants can bring their own. On Thursday, June 26, singer Erica from Parody Playhouse brings a high-energy music and movement program for families with children up to age 6; that event takes place outdoors at Hannah Williams Park, 71 Main Street. The library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, "Plant a Seed, Read," is also underway, having kicked off June 15.

Vokes Players is gearing up for its summer production: "Over the River and Through the Woods," a comedy by Joe DePietro directed by David Berti, runs July 24 through August 8 at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre, 97 Boston Post Road. Tickets are available at vokesplayers.org.

The Wayland Council on Aging is promoting its 15th Annual Summer Concert Series; residents can sign up for the COA's weekly email for full program details.
