Wayland Museum leads holiday-weekend slate with Lake Cochituate nature walk

WAYLAND — With town hall offices closed for the holiday weekend and no fresh press releases in the queue, the Wayland Museum & Historical Society's "Walk, Wonder, and Discover" outing at Lake Cochituate this morning is the headline community event on a slow Sunday in town.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Wayland Museum & Historical Society holds its monthly "Walk, Wonder, and Discover" nature walk at 9 a.m. today, meeting at the town beach at 25 Parkland Drive on Lake Cochituate. The walks are part of the museum's yearlong "Tracing Liberty" series marking the country's 250th anniversary, which pairs first-Wednesday book talks with last-Sunday outdoor explorations. The next book discussion, on June 3 at 7 p.m., features Tilly Laskey's "Precious & Adored: Love Letters of Rose Cleveland & Evangeline Simpson Whipple, 1890–1918," in person at the Wayland Free Public Library and on Zoom. Laskey returns for an in-person author talk at the museum on June 7 at 2 p.m.

The Vokes Players and the Wayland 250 Committee, with the Wayland High School theater department, will stage a concert version of Peter Stone and Stuart Ostrow's musical "1776" at the high school on June 12 and June 13 at 7:30 p.m. The production is being mounted outside the Vokes regular season as part of the town's semi-quincentennial programming. Vokes' summer mainstage, Joe DiPietro's "Over the River and Through the Woods," directed by David Berti, opens July 24 and runs through Aug. 8.

The Council on Aging's June newsletter is now posted, and the COA is taking sign-ups for its 15th Annual Summer Concert Series and a one-year anniversary celebration at the Community Center at 8 Andrew Ave.
