Wayland's June calendar opens with COA newsletter, museum talk and Vokes concert plans

WAYLAND — With no fresh items from Town Hall or the district news desk on June 1, the day's news lives on the community calendar: the Council on Aging has rolled out its June newsletter, the Wayland Museum & Historical Society kicks off its next "Tracing Liberty" book talk Wednesday, and Vokes Players is finalizing its semiquincentennial concert staging of "1776" at Wayland High School.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Council on Aging's June newsletter is now posted on the department's page at 8 Andrew Ave., previewing the 15th Annual Summer Concert Series at the COA and a one-year anniversary celebration for the Community Center. Director Julie Secord's office is also pointing residents to the COA's weekly email sign-up for program updates between newsletter cycles.

The Wayland Museum & Historical Society's "Tracing Liberty" series — the museum's yearlong nod to the nation's 250th anniversary — returns Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. with a discussion of Tilly Laskey's "Precious & Adored: Love Letters of Rose Cleveland & Evangeline Simpson Whipple, 1890–1918." The session is in-person at the Wayland Free Public Library and on Zoom. Laskey herself returns to Wayland for an in-person author talk Sunday, June 7 at 2 p.m. The series' next "Walk, Wonder, and Discover!" outing is set for Sunday, June 28 at 9 a.m. on the Dudley Woods Trail at Pond Drive and Doran Road.

Vokes Players has confirmed dates for its concert version of "1776," produced in partnership with the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department. Performances are Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Wayland High School, outside the company's regular season. Vokes' summer mainstage, Joe DiPietro's "Over the River and Through the Woods" directed by David Berti, follows July 24 through Aug. 8.
