Wayland Museum hosts Tilly Laskey for Sunday author talk on Cleveland-Whipple letters
WAYLAND — A quiet Saturday in town puts the focus on what's coming next: a Sunday afternoon author talk at the Wayland Museum, the Council on Aging's 15th annual summer concert series, and a Vokes Players concert version of "1776" at the high school next weekend.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Wayland Museum & Historical Society hosts an in-person author talk at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, with Tilly Laskey, editor of "Precious & Adored: Love Letters of Rose Cleveland & Evangeline Simpson Whipple, 1890–1918." The talk follows the museum's June 3 "Tracing Liberty" book discussion of the same title, part of its yearlong programming tied to the nation's 250th anniversary. Looking further out, the museum has flagged a June 21 opening reception and the Annual Meeting paired with a "Samuel Parris: Villain or Victim?" presentation, and the next "Walk, Wonder, and Discover!" outing is set for 9 a.m. June 28 at the Dudley Woods Trail at Pond Drive and Doran Road.
The Vokes Players, the town's Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department are teaming up for a concert version of Peter Stone and Stuart Ostrow's "1776" the Musical on June 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Wayland High School. It is produced outside the company's regular season as part of the town's semiquincentennial year. Vokes' summer mainstage, Joe DePietro's "Over the River and Through the Woods," directed by David Berti, runs July 24 through Aug. 8 at the Vokes Theatre on Route 20.
The Council on Aging has posted its June newsletter and is promoting its 1-year anniversary celebration at the Community Center at 8 Andrew Ave., along with the 15th annual COA Summer Concert Series. Director Julie Secord's team is also pointing residents to the weekly COA email list for program reminders.
SCHOOLS
Wayland Public Schools published its weekly "All Schools News" bulletin on June 3 with district announcements and community submissions, including a notice from Wayland Junior Broadway. The district's next bulletin is due Wednesday, with submissions to All_SchoolsNews@waylandps.org by end of day Friday.
