Wayland lands $150,000 state grant to advance Loker Street culvert work
WAYLAND — The town is closing the week with a $150,000 state award aimed at easing chronic road flooding on Loker Street, as municipal offices, the library and the Council on Aging prepare to close Monday for Memorial Day and residents turn out for a holiday-weekend pancake breakfast.

The Wayland Free Public Library will be closed Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day, the library has notified patrons. Regular hours resume Tuesday.
The Wayland Council on Aging, based at the Community Center at 8 Andrew Avenue, will also be closed Monday for the holiday. The COA's May newsletter is now posted on the department's page; Director Julie Secord's office can be reached at 508-358-2990 for program details.
The Wayland Museum & Historical Society's "Tracing Liberty" semiquincentennial series continues with a Walk, Wonder, and Discover outing at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 31, at the Lake Cochituate town beach, 25 Parkland Drive. The free walks pair with the museum's monthly book discussions and are open to all.
Vokes Players is gearing up for two summer shows at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre on Route 20. First is "1776 In Concert," a concert version of the Stone-and-Ostrow musical produced with the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department, performing at the high school June 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. The community theater's main-stage summer production, Joe DiPietro's "Over the River and Through the Woods," directed by David Berti, runs July 24 through Aug. 8.
