Wayland Conservation Commission Approves Sherman's Bridge Order, Elects Fair and Aubin as Officers

WAYLAND — June 17, 2026 — Wayland Conservation Commission approves Sherman's Bridge order and elects new officers at packed June meeting. The commission voted unanimously Wednesday to issue an Order of Conditions for the Wayland Department of Public Works' rehabilitation of Sherman's Bridge, aligning its approval with terms set by the Sudbury Conservation Commission one day earlier, including use of DCOI wood preservative for all glulam structural members and a reduction in total floodplain fill from 555 to 465 cubic feet. In leadership votes, Chair Sean P. Fair was reappointed for a 10th year and member Lisa Aubin was elected vice chair, replacing Shannon Fischer. The commission also required a third-party stormwater peer review before any action on a Notice of Intent for 8 Carpenter Road, where Conservation Administrator Linda Hansen noted it was the third Wayland project by applicant Steve Garofalo in which tree clearing preceded permitting — "it gets really frustrating when this happens three times in a row." The 68 Lakeshore Drive after-the-fact dock and patio case was continued to July 29 pending resolution of a disputed Mona Path right-of-way dating to early 1900s subdivision plans.
