Wayland Board of Health approves FY27 budget, South Street septic timing waiver

WAYLAND — February 23, 2026 — Wayland Board of Health approves a flat $1.44M FY27 budget and a South Street septic timing waiver. The board voted 4-0 on Feb. 23 to back $175,525 in non-salary spending and $1,264,609 in salaries, both built to the town manager's no-growth guidance, with the water-monitoring line cut from $4,850 to $2,850 after Recreation agreed to share cyanobacteria shipping costs. Members also voted 4-0 to let Justin and Sarah Woodside of 22 South Street install a new septic system after their addition is built; engineer Brian Nelson of MetroWest Engineering said the tight corner lot meant it would be "much better for the health of the new septic system" to pour the foundation first. Chair Robert Defrancesco canceled a planned executive session on 10 Shore Drive litigation, pushing it to March 16. Public Health Nurse Moira Carter reported 35 January flu cases in Wayland, 282 statewide flu deaths including seven children, and a 59.5 percent local vaccination rate.
