Waltham City Council Refers $10.5 Million Police Station Loan to Committee
WALTHAM — March 23, 2026 — Waltham City Council referred a $10.5 million police station design loan to committee and approved more than $400,000 in spending at its March 23 meeting. The council sent the mayor's $10,536,466 loan authorization for owner's project management and design of a new station at 155 Lexington Street to the Long Term Debt and Capital Planning Committee without debate. Finance Committee recommendations approved by voice vote included $174,541 from the Unreserved Fund Balance to cover a school special education out-of-district deficit and $217,157 for softball field improvements at the Veterans Athletic Complex. The council passed a Local News Day resolution recognizing April 9 after June Kinoshita, Board Chair and Executive Committee member of the Waltham Times, told councillors that "local news outlets are disappearing by the hundreds, by the thousands." A snow removal ordinance reform resolution, co-sponsored by eight councillors, was referred to the Ordinances and Rules Committee. The full council voted 14-1 to enter executive session on a real estate negotiation, with Councillor Carlos A. Vidal recorded as the sole opposing vote.
