Sudbury wins more than $956,000 in MassDOT grants for streets and culverts

SUDBURY — The Department of Public Works announced Friday that the town has won more than $956,000 in MassDOT funding through the FY26 Complete Streets and Community Culvert programs, the largest infrastructure award to land in town hall this week. The Sudbury250 series also rolls on Sunday with a free presentation on Native communities and the Revolution, and the annual Locally Grown farmers' market and fair returns to Fairbank next Saturday.

TOWN HALL

DPW says the more than $956,000 MassDOT package will flow through two state programs — Complete Streets, which funds sidewalk, crosswalk and bicycle improvements, and the Community Culvert Program, which underwrites culvert replacement work. The town's announcement frames the award as a significant boost for pedestrian and stormwater projects already in the pipeline.

Town Manager Andrew Sherman's office also pushed out the March edition of "The Sudbrief," a roundup of upcoming town programs, events and notices for residents. And the town confirmed its Locally Grown Sudbury Farmer's Market & Fair is set for Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fairbank Community Center.

The Sudbury250 commemoration continues Sunday, May 31, at 4 p.m. with "Native Communities & the American Revolution," a free presentation in the Fairbank Community Center Multi-Purpose Room.

SCHOOLS

Sudbury Public Schools posted notice this week of a Community Conversation featuring Sean Killingsworth, along with reminders about HOPEsudbury's Fishing Derby & Fun Day and an Adaptive Rail Trail Ride open to participants on Saturday, June 6. The district is also flagging that Haynes, Loring, Nixon and Noyes K-troops are forming for fall 2026.

The School Committee meets next on Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m. Families should also note key calendar dates: an early-release day and Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, June 3; the last full day of school for most students on Thursday, June 18 (early release); no school on Juneteenth, Friday, June 19; Loring's last day on Monday, June 22; and the 185th and final day of school on Tuesday, June 23.

At Lincoln-Sudbury, the most recent district communication on the news page is the May 14 update from Superintendent/Principal Andrew Stephens and a notice for the "Sonder" student film premiere and roundtable.
