Sudbury Select Board recesses after 10-minute pre-Town Meeting check-in

SUDBURY — May 6, 2026 — Sudbury Select Board recessed after a 10-minute pre-Town Meeting huddle, deferring its lone outstanding Special Town Meeting position to May 19. Chair Janie Dretler and Vice-Chair Radha Gargeya agreed to hold the audit-related article for the board's regular May 19 meeting, one day before voters act on the May 20 warrant. Town Manager Andrew Sheehan told members that Assistant Town Manager and Finance Director Victor Garofalo had been unable to persuade citizen petitioner Ralph Tyler to amend the form of his Annual Town Meeting motion, which Sheehan said "could give the appearance that there are two types of appropriation" — taxation and debt — for an article that authorizes borrowing. Sheehan said the fix requires "striking two words"; Garofalo has briefed the Town Moderator and consulted bond counsel, and Town Counsel Lee will attend. Dretler also flagged a notice the town received alleging Wage Act violations by the Sudbury Public Schools administration as a future agenda item. The board voted 5-0 to recess.
