Sudbury CIAC recommends five capital articles totaling $2.9 million

SUDBURY — March 18, 2026 — Sudbury capital committee endorses $2.9 million in articles, defers rail-trail boardwalk. The Capital Improvement Advisory Committee voted 7-0 on each of five articles March 18, including $2.2 million for a Department of Public Works garage concrete floor, $147,679 as Sudbury's 86 percent share of a Lincoln-Sudbury wastewater controls replacement, $337,700 for universal-design improvements to the Dr. Bill Adelson Smile Playground, $214,000 for a Broadacres/Featherland design, and $122,000 for a Davis Field design. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran defended the DPW floor's $158,700 design contingency and $80,000 OPM line as appropriate for a "summer slammer" bid window, while member Tom Travers said, "If we don't need it, we return it." Assistant Town Manager Victor Garofalo said roughly $400,000 to $500,000 of the $900,000 Atkinson Pool contingency will be returned. The committee deferred a $270,000 Mass Central Rail Trail boardwalk pending review of the CPC application.
