Sudbury Board of Health hears Sudbury Farms reopening plan, flags state health-district push

SUDBURY — June 10, 2026 — Sudbury Board of Health receives Sudbury Farms reopening update and warns of state push toward regional health districts. Chair Carol Bradford led members Susan Sama and Linda Huet-Clayton through a Roche Bros. presentation previewing the June 13-14 grand opening, where Director of Facilities Rob Cox said the gut renovation eliminated 16 compressors and five condensing units in favor of a single CO2-based refrigeration rack rated at a global warming potential of one, down from 1,273. Kaylee Watson, the Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative's new regional epidemiologist, told the board the state Office of Local and Regional Health has placed exploration of forming a "health district" on the FY27 PHE grant work plan — a model that would require seven member boards to cede permitting authority. Health Director Vivian called it "ethically" unacceptable to reduce Sudbury's public health infrastructure. Social workers announced a $28,000 MetroWest Health Foundation food-security grant. The board approved April 8 and May 13 minutes and adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
