Stow Select Board Reappoints Two Dozen Volunteers, Hears $534K Paving Bid

STOW — June 9, 2026 — Stow Select Board reappoints more than two dozen volunteers and hears a paving bid nearly half the town's estimate. The board voted 5-0 on four separate slates of annual July 1 appointments covering one- through five-year terms, confirming positions on bodies including the Conservation Commission, Open Space Committee, and Economic Development and Industrial Commission; one five-year term end date was corrected on the record from 2029 to 2031. DPW Director Dan Rowley reported that five bids were received for the 2026 roadway improvement program, with the low bid from Mass Broken Stone coming in at $533,668.50 against a department estimate of roughly $985,157 — a gap Rowley attributed to deliberately conservative asphalt pricing. Roads in the program include Hudson Road, Boxborough Road, Taylor Road, Common Road, and three town-meeting-funded streets; Rowley said remaining Chapter 90 funds could be used to expand the scope or launch a winter contract. The board also gave preliminary go-ahead for a community mural painting day on July 18 and a Recreation Department summer festival on July 3, with final approvals expected at the June 23 meeting.
