Health Department Issues Summer Tick Warning, Points to Testing Subsidy
WAYLAND — The Wayland Health Department issued a pair of summertime tick advisories Tuesday, reminding residents to guard against tick-borne illnesses and pointing them toward the town's tick-testing subsidy program. The advisories anchor a quiet news day dominated by community arts — including a concert version of "1776" at the high school this weekend — and a roundup of weekend volleyball, lacrosse and public-safety items from area outlets.
TOWN HALL
The Health Department posted two related advisories Tuesday afternoon. The first, "Stay Safe from Ticks this Summer," urges residents to take precautions as the season begins to reduce the risk of tick-borne illness. The second points residents to Wayland's Tick Testing Subsidy Program, which helps cover the cost of testing ticks pulled off people or pets. Both items are posted to the town's News Flash at wayland.ma.us.
SCHOOLS
The district's weekly All Schools News bulletin for June 10 is out, the next-to-last edition before the summer break. Families should check it via the district's Post Archives page (waylandps.org) for end-of-year announcements, summer-program reminders and submission deadlines for the final bulletin.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The biggest community-arts event of the week is a concert version of the musical "1776," co-produced by Vokes Players, the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department as part of the town's semiquincentennial celebration. Performances are at Wayland High School on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, both at 7:30 p.m. Vokes has also announced its summer mainstage: Joe DiPietro's comedy "Over the River and Through the Woods," directed by David Berti, runs July 24 through Aug. 8 at the Vokes Theatre on Route 20.
At the Council on Aging, the June newsletter is out, and the COA is promoting its one-year anniversary celebration at the Community Center on Andrew Avenue along with the 15th annual Summer Concert Series. Sign-ups for the COA's weekly email are open at wayland.ma.us.
The Wayland Museum & Historical Society has a busy stretch ahead in its "Tracing Liberty" series, marking 250 years of American history. A "Walk, Wonder, and Discover!" nature walk is set for Sunday, June 28, at 9 a.m. at the Dudley Woods trailhead at Pond Drive and Doran Road. The museum is also previewing a June 21 opening reception for its "Little Liberties" programming, free and open to all.
