Personnel Board accepts consultant pay study with 16 proposed grades

WAYLAND — March 2, 2026 — Wayland Personnel Board receives MGT pay study showing roughly a dozen employees below proposed minimums. Katy Lee of MGT Solutions Inc. presented the classification and compensation study authorized at 2025 Annual Town Meeting, recommending 16 pay grades with a 35 percent spread and continued targeting of the 75th percentile of comparable communities. Lee said Wayland's current ranges are "keeping pace" with that benchmark but flagged 11 or 12 employees whose salaries fall below the proposed minimum and should be raised "as soon as financially possible." Chair Maryanne Peabody, Paul Morenberg and Mary Ellen Castagno pressed Lee on phased implementation; Town Administrator Michael McCall noted five collective bargaining units and an FY27 gap of at least $1.8 million complicate rollout. The board voted 3-0 to approve Dec. 16 minutes as amended.
