Park and Recreation Commission tables Haskell solar vote until April

SUDBURY — February 9, 2026 — Sudbury Park and Recreation Commission tables Haskell solar canopy vote a second time, citing missing renderings. At its Feb. 9 meeting, Energy and Sustainability Committee Vice Chair Olga Allen and Chair Rami Alwan asked the commission to reconsider its November opposition, modeling roughly $3.4 million in lifetime savings at a 7.175-cent-per-kWh power-purchase rate that would generate the Fairbank Community Center's full annual electricity consumption. Chair Mara Huston said the commission had waited four weeks without a Town Manager response to whether the town can build at Haskell without PRC approval; Director of Health and Community Services Vivian Zeng said the town manager would meet with KP Law on the authority question. Member Bobby Beagan said the parcel cannot be compared to the Lincoln-Sudbury array — "It's like apples and oranges" — citing active master-planning work for the Haskell-Fairbank outdoor space. The item returns April 13. Commissioners separately voted 4-0 to authorize Heritage Park volunteer Heather Halsey and to finalize the annual report ahead of a Feb. 20 deadline.
