Lincoln METCO opens townwide Juneteenth celebration Saturday afternoon

LINCOLN — The biggest item on the local calendar today is a townwide Juneteenth celebration hosted by Lincoln METCO and sponsored by the Boston Bridges Initiative, running from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on the Ballfield Road campus. Town Hall's News Flash had no fresh items overnight, leaving the schools-led community event as the day's defining story.

SCHOOLS

Lincoln METCO's Juneteenth program kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with vendor tables, followed by the formal program from 1 to 2 p.m. and outdoor festivities from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The lineup, per Lincoln Public Schools, includes performances from the Boston Kroc Center, local and community vendors, live music, poetry, dance, a DJ, the STEP team, food and bouncy houses for kids. The district is billing it as "a joyful community wide celebration."

The event lands in the closing stretch of the school year. In his most recent bi-weekly message dated May 22, Superintendent Parry Graham flagged the unsettled Memorial Day weather and the wind-down to summer; the LPS Family Feedback Survey for parents and caregivers also remains open.

At Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Superintendent/Principal Andrew Stephens's June 1 "LS News & Happenings" is the most recent district communication to families. No new bulletin posted in the past 24 hours.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Juneteenth gathering doubles as the day's main community-and-arts event, with vendor tables and performances open to the wider town, not just school families. The Lincoln Public Library did not post new program announcements in this cycle.

ELSEWHERE IN THE NEWS
