Lafleur Names Miklosko Interim Public Works Director Ahead of June 19 Retirement
Town Manager Kerry Lafleur has appointed Aaron Miklosko as Interim Director of Concord Public Works, effective June 19 — the same day current Director Alan Cathcart retires and one of the town's busiest construction weeks of the summer gets fully under way.
TOWN HALL
The leadership handoff at the Department of Public Works comes at a demanding moment. Cathcart's retirement on June 19 gives Miklosko immediate ownership of a full slate of street projects: the town has scheduled road work on Hill Street, Orchard Road, Main Street, Adin Drive, Stow Street, Everett Street, Sudbury Road, and Devens Street for the week of June 15. The Silver Hill Road Phase II reconstruction project, which began June 8, also continues.
Beyond the construction calendar, two standing orders remain in effect across town. The Level 1 water restriction limits lawn watering to one day per week. The gas-powered leaf-blower ban, which took effect May 31, is also in force through the summer. Separately, the town's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission is continuing to collect responses to its community-wide survey on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in Concord — residents can find it through concordma.gov.
SCHOOLS
Wednesday, June 17 is the 180th and final day of instruction for Concord Public Schools. June 19, which also marks the CPW leadership transition, is Juneteenth — a district holiday.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Concord Free Public Library will be closed Friday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth across all branches, including the Fowler Branch on Main Street. The library's Summer Reading program is under way, and the library's calendar lists a Book Sale for June 2026.
