Conservation Commission approves Camp Sewataro pond filtration upgrade

SUDBURY — April 27, 2026 — Sudbury Conservation Commission clears Camp Sewataro biofiltration upgrade and reshuffles its membership. The commission voted 4-0 to approve a minor modification to the camp's order of conditions, allowing four upgraded aerators, a 1,000-gallon biofiltration tank, and submerged filter grass at the swim pond used twice daily by roughly 650 campers. Camp director Emmy Nanamaki said the pond is "trapped in a cycle" of chemical treatments, and consultant John Tucci of Everblue Lakes said the system provides the biological surface area of more than an acre of natural wetland. The commission also accepted member Luke Faust's resignation and elevated associate Harry Hoffman to a full three-year term beginning June 1, reappointed Jeremy Cook and Chair David Henkels, and voted to support Article 36's $270,000 CPC allocation for accessible rail-trail amenities while taking no position on Article 26's Union Avenue parking easements. The long-running Boddy Brook Realty subdivision at 74-80 Maynard Road was continued to June 1 over the question of whether the open-space parcel should be donated to the town or placed under a conservation restriction.
