Weston Unified Plan Committee sets May deadline, debates housing section language

WESTON — January 21, 2026 — Weston's Unified Plan Committee agreed to a late-May deadline for completing draft goals and set up a community survey, while debating contested language in draft housing and land use sections of the town's first comprehensive plan in roughly 60 years. Town Planner Imai Aiu told the committee at the January 21 meeting that $16,000 remains unallocated from the $250,000 appropriation after a $234,000 contract with Barrett Consulting, with any extension requiring a return to town meeting. Member Bob Scott volunteered to redraft the land use, housing, and economic development sections, targeting delivery by February 6, after member Diana Chaplin raised multiple factual and tone objections, including a disputed sentence suggesting Weston could lose its sense of community without housing diversification, which she called inaccurate. The committee unanimously approved corrected December 22 minutes and set its next meeting for February 9 at 3 p.m. as a hybrid session.
