Weston Historical Commission Imposes One-Year Demolition Delay on 1891 Boston Post Road House
WESTON — April 7, 2026 — Weston Historical Commission imposes one-year demolition delay on 1891 Boston Post Road house and barn. The commission voted 4-0 Tuesday to block demolition of the historic house and barn at 669 Boston Post Road, owned by Red House Realty Trust, after the owner told the panel that contractors and prospective buyers had repeatedly concluded the structure would require more investment than the town's $300,000 preservation deed-restriction offer could offset. Consultant Alicia Primer, who helped present the original 2021 town meeting appropriation, urged the commission to maintain the delay and continue negotiations, saying the house "passed almost unanimously at town meeting." Neighbor Chris Covington asked whether the allowable building envelope could be enlarged to improve the financial case for preservation, and another commenter, Adrian Giskey of 251 Boston Post Road, suggested revisiting the funding figure given construction cost increases of roughly 32 percent since the original appraisal. The commission also voted 4-0 to advance a barn-addition application at 170 Winter Street to a May 5 public hearing, with the applicant directed first to consult the Zoning Board of Appeals administrator about a significant setback encroachment.
