Wayland School Committee withdraws backing for $200,000 Holiday Road study
WAYLAND — April 29, 2026 — Wayland School Committee reverses course and withdraws support for the $200,000 Holiday Road study. The committee voted unanimously Wednesday to drop its co-sponsorship of Article 16 after residents Jim Van Sciver and Chris Memoli warned the appraisal and engineering work would "be the first step toward residential development" of the 25 Holiday Road parcel. Member Betsy Soule, moving reconsideration, said new information about MSBA's process meant the funds "may be premature." Members said the Select Board's newly accepted visioning charge had narrowed the study toward housing. The committee also released for public comment a draft policy allowing tuition-in students when special education programs are over 40 percent under capacity, approved 3-2 with Soule and Kate Conklin opposed. Annual town meeting opens May 4.
