Wayland police warn residents after black bear sighting in neighborhood

WAYLAND — Wayland police are asking residents to stay alert after a black bear was reportedly spotted in a town neighborhood, the most-watched local headline on a quiet Monday that otherwise found Town Hall, the schools and community organizations between major announcements.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Vokes Players' production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" — Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock musical, directed by Jennifer Gasser with music director Shane Stecher — is sold out for its run through May 16 at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre on Boston Post Road. Tickets for the regular season run are no longer available, but the company has a separate offering on the way.

As part of Wayland's semiquincentennial programming, Vokes is teaming with the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department to stage a concert version of "1776" at Wayland High School on June 12 and June 13 at 7:30 p.m. The production is being mounted outside the regular Vokes season.

At the Council on Aging, the May 2026 newsletter is now available through the COA's page, and the Community Center at 8 Andrew Avenue will be closed Monday, May 19, and Monday, May 25, for the upcoming holiday period. COA Director Julie Secord's office can be reached at 508-358-2990 for program details.
