Wayland Police Boost Patrols at Houses of Worship After San Diego Attack

WAYLAND — Town officials and the Wayland Police Department issued a joint statement Tuesday condemning a recent attack on a mosque in San Diego, and police said they are increasing patrols at houses of worship locally as a precaution. Officials said there is no known threat to any Wayland congregation.

TOWN HALL

The town and Wayland Police Department's joint statement, posted to the town's News Flash on Tuesday afternoon, expressed solidarity with the Muslim community after the San Diego attack. Police said extra patrols around Wayland houses of worship are precautionary and not in response to any specific local threat.

Separately, the Health Department urged residents to take precautions as a heat advisory remains in effect through Wednesday evening, with the greater Boston area expecting record temperatures this week. The department recirculated guidance on staying hydrated, checking on older neighbors and limiting outdoor exertion during peak heat.

The Public Ceremonies Committee also confirmed the 2026 Memorial Day Program will be held Monday, May 25, with a parade and a Ceremony of Remembrance honoring the town's fallen veterans.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Council on Aging is closed today, Tuesday, May 19, and will close again on Memorial Day, May 25. The COA's May newsletter is available on the department's page; regular hours resume Wednesday.
