Wayland EDC approves infographic highlighting town's 2.8 percent commercial tax base
WAYLAND — February 10, 2026 — Wayland EDC approves infographic spotlighting town's 2.8 percent commercial tax base. The Economic Development Committee voted 4-0 Tuesday to approve, with revisions, a public infographic and email blast drafted by members Neeti Singhal Mahajan and Katie Noble Harris showing commercial property makes up about 2.8 percent of Wayland's tax base, compared with roughly 5.8 percent in Sudbury. Chair Rebecca M. Stanizzi said the materials will be sent to Select Board liaison Thomas Fay for review and pitched to the Wayland Post before February school vacation. Member Jeff Vecchio asked for language clarifying Wayland uses a single tax rate; Karen Kelly pressed for peer-town data on undevelopable land. During public comment, Orchard Lane resident Michael Hill challenged a November slide estimating $800,000 in tax revenue from 50 hypothetical townhomes, arguing per-resident municipal costs of roughly $6,750 could erase the gain. S. Alihan Polat offered to run GIS analyses identifying underutilized parcels.
