Wayland capital committee phases $2.5M Town Building roof, defers ballfield project
WAYLAND — January 7, 2026 — Wayland capital committee phases Town Building roof, defers $2.5M ballfield rebuild. The Capital Improvement Planning Committee on Wednesday endorsed Director of Buildings Michael Faia's plan to spread a previously $2.8 million Town Building roof request across four years totaling $2,481,550, starting with $310,750 in fiscal 2027. Members added $518,500 for main elevator refurbishment and ranked as high priority $932,603 in accelerated fire alarm upgrades at Happy Hollow, Loker and Claypit schools, plus a $359,722 middle school hot water heater. Chair Kelly Lappin said she had "zero confidence that this encompasses all of the demons that are in this building." The committee declined to fund a $2.5 million high school ballfield rebuild tied to the $2 million septic project, citing unresolved scope. DPW roads were partially funded at $431,875, with two failing vehicles totaling $475,000 added. Members approved Dec. 17 minutes 5-0.
