Wayland Assessors commit $334,517 in motor vehicle excise taxes
WAYLAND — April 13, 2026 — Wayland Assessors approve $334,517 excise commitment as senior tax credit article is withdrawn. The Board of Assessors voted unanimously on April 13 to approve a second fiscal 2026 motor vehicle and trailer excise commitment of $334,517.95, on a motion from member Zach Ventress. Liaison Steve Klitgord told the board the Select Board has pulled Article KK, the proposed senior tax credit, from the May 4 Annual Town Meeting warrant after determining it "was not in conformance with state law." Klitgord called it "a dead issue" for this year but said the Select Board encouraged a revised proposal for next year. Staff also reported fiscal 2026 abatements are finalized, fiscal 2026 exemption applications closed April 1, and assessor Stephen Foley has returned to the office four days a week. The board's next meeting is May 11.
