Wayland announces Oak Street weekday closures, issues statement on mosque attack
WAYLAND — Town Hall on Tuesday released a pair of statements addressing recent national and international events, including the deadly mosque attack in San Diego, while the Department of Public Works announced weekday lane closures on Oak Street southbound beginning Thursday. The Health Department, meanwhile, urged residents to take precautions as a heat advisory remains in effect through Wednesday evening.

The Town of Wayland and the Wayland Police Department issued a joint statement Monday on the recent attack on a mosque in San Diego, followed Tuesday by a broader statement addressing current national and international events. Both notices were posted to the town's news flash; the police department has signaled heightened attention to local houses of worship even as officials say no specific threat has been identified in Wayland.
Public Works announced a temporary lane closure on Oak Street southbound to allow utility crews to work in the corridor. The southbound side will be closed to through traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting Thursday, May 21. Drivers should expect detours during work hours.
Town Manager Michael McCall will hold his monthly office hours on Tuesday, May 26, the town announced. The Health Department also reminded residents to stay hydrated, check on neighbors and limit outdoor exertion as the greater Boston area sees record heat under a National Weather Service advisory in effect through Wednesday evening.

Vokes Players has set its summer slate at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre on Boston Post Road: Joe DiPietro's family comedy "Over the River and Through the Woods," directed by David Berti, runs July 24 through Aug. 8. Outside the regular season, Vokes is teaming with the Wayland 250 Committee and the Wayland High School theater department to stage a concert version of "1776" at the high school on June 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m.
