Townsend Board of Health Hires Recycling Attendant, Eyes New Hauler Rules
TOWNSEND — April 13, 2026 — Townsend Board of Health votes to hire new recycling attendant and eyes mandatory hauler recycling rules. The board voted unanimously at its April 13 meeting to recommend Jeffrey Moon, 20, for the Recycling Center Attendant 1 position, with a projected start date of May 2 pending a Select Board background check at its April 21 meeting. Financial consultant Elizabeth Barth reported the Solid Waste and Recycling Enterprise Fund is projecting a positive balance of roughly $26,000 after April, with the Shaw's contract billing $56,394.90 most recently, prompting Chair Dr. Christian Romero Ramirez to note the final fiscal months will require "close monitoring." The board also approved a $62,524.20 warrant covering disposal, Earth Day, electronics recycling, and 20 Orbis compost bins, with one bin to be raffled at the town's Earth Day event. A draft set of Hauler Regulations — modeled on rules adopted in Ashburnham — that would require bundled trash-and-recycling service from all licensed haulers is headed toward a tentative public hearing at the May 11 regular meeting, with the board adding a special meeting on April 28 to replace its April 27 session lost to the town election.
