Town Names Miklosko Interim Public Works Director as Cathcart Retires June 19
Town Manager Kerry Lafleur has appointed Aaron Miklosko as Interim Director of Concord Public Works effective June 19, the same day Director Alan Cathcart retires — a handoff that lands in the middle of one of the busiest infrastructure weeks on the town calendar, with three separate paving and sidewalk projects launching in as many days.
TOWN HALL
Lafleur's appointment of Miklosko, announced Tuesday, ensures continuity at the top of Concord Public Works on the day Cathcart steps down after leading the department. Miklosko will inherit an active workload from the start: final paving on Main Street between ORNAC and Route 2 and on Adin Drive is scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 17. Both corridors should expect lane restrictions and possible delays. Stow Street follows Thursday, June 18, when crews start ADA sidewalk ramp repairs as part of the town's ongoing accessibility improvement work.
A Level 1 lawn-watering restriction remains in effect, limiting irrigation to one day per week.
SCHOOLS
Wednesday, June 17, is the 180th day of school for Concord Public Schools — the state-mandated instructional minimum and, for many students, the last day of the academic year. Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, is a full holiday on the district calendar.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
All Concord Free Public Library branches — Main Street and Fowler — will be closed Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
The library is accepting applications for its 2027 Writer-in-Residence Program through July 15. The six-month residency runs January through June 2027 and is designed to carry forward Concord's literary heritage by supporting diverse voices and literary-arts programming. Information and the application are available at concordlibrary.org.
