Town Hall Closes Thursday for Juneteenth as Tax-Taking Deadline Nears

Town Hall will be shuttered all day Thursday in observance of Juneteenth Independence Day, giving residents one day's notice to redirect any in-person business. Property owners carrying delinquent tax balances face a more consequential date: the Office of the Collector of Taxes has posted formal notice of a tax taking set for June 30 at noon at Town Hall.

TOWN HALL

The Juneteenth holiday closure covers all Town Hall offices Thursday, June 19. Residents who need permits, payments, or records access should plan to go today or wait until Friday.

The tax-taking notice is the more pressing item for some households. The Collector of Taxes has scheduled the formal proceeding for June 30 at noon at Town Hall; property owners with outstanding delinquent balances risk having a lien placed on their property if the balance is not resolved before that date.

The town's mandatory water restrictions, in effect since May 1, remain active. A separate posting on the town website also confirms that a stop work order at the Lincoln Hills development has been lifted, though no additional detail was included in the public notice.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Ayer Public Library's annual Summer Kickoff Carnival arrives this Saturday, June 20. The free, family-friendly event features Ed the Wizard, a bounce house, fun activities, and a plant and seed swap. The library describes it as the launch of the summer season, so expect crowds of families looking to celebrate the first full week of summer.
