Sudbury Wins $10,000 MIIA Grant to Buy New DPW Safety Equipment

SUDBURY — The town has landed a $10,000 risk management grant from its insurance association to buy new safety equipment for Department of Public Works crews, while summer access to Camp Sewataro is now underway and a free electric-vehicle basics webinar goes live Wednesday evening.

TOWN HALL

The Town of Sudbury has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), the town's property and casualty insurance provider, to fund critical safety equipment and protective gear for DPW staff. The award is specifically targeted at worker safety and work zone protection — an ongoing concern for road crews operating near live traffic.

The town manager's office also released the full schedule for summer access to the Camp Sewataro property. Resident swim dates at the pond are July 3, 4, and 5 and Aug. 1 and 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. General summer access is already in effect: Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to dusk, and weekends from 9 a.m. to dusk.

Sudbury's Energy and Sustainability department is hosting a free virtual session Wednesday evening aimed at residents curious about going electric. "From Gas Pumps to Charging Stations: Electric Vehicle Basics for Everyday Drivers" runs from 7 to 8 p.m. on June 17; advance registration is required at bit.ly/EV-101.

The Sudbury Senior Center will host "Partners in Care: Practical Guidance for Seniors and Caregivers" on Tuesday, June 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 40 Fairbank Rd. The program is designed to offer practical support for seniors and the family members or neighbors who help care for them. Registration is open now through the Senior Center.
