Sudbury Select Board signs special town meeting warrant after citizen petition triggers May 20 vote

SUDBURY — April 28, 2026 — Sudbury Select Board signs four-article special town meeting warrant for May 20. The unanimous vote followed a citizen petition filed April 6 by resident Jillian Kelton with more than 200 signatures, which Town Counsel Lauren Goldberg of KP Law told the board left it no discretion under M.G.L. Chapter 39, Section 10. The warrant includes resolutions supporting the state bottle bill update and the voter-approved legislative audit, a home-rule petition establishing a recall procedure, and a vote of no confidence in the Sudbury School Committee. Town Manager Andrew Sheehan estimated incremental costs of $20,000 to $25,000 to hold the meeting in the Lincoln-Sudbury gymnasium, with $9,725 already committed for technology and $2,895 for chairs, funded by a reserve fund transfer. Chair Lisa Kouchakdjian called the recall act's signature thresholds "a very low bar" compared to peer communities. The board separately approved a new all-alcohol license for Ramen Haven at 530 Boston Post Road and adopted a revised $250,000 single threshold for Capital Improvement Advisory Committee review.
