Sudbury Park and Recreation Commission backs Eagle Scout pollinator garden 5-0

SUDBURY — January 13, 2026 — Sudbury Park and Recreation Commission backs Eagle Scout pollinator garden, hears Feeley Phase 2 redesign. The commission voted 5-0 Tuesday to support Brandon Ma's Troop 61 Eagle project — two 12-by-4-foot raised beds with 48 native plant plugs along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, estimated at $270-$500 in materials — contingent on Conservation Commission review and confirmation the site is town-controlled. Kyle Rowan of Gale Associates presented schematic plans for Feeley Phase 2, rerouting the ADA path around a 2023 retaining wall after the original design sent it through a dugout; construction is on track for summer 2026. Assistant Town Manager Victor Garofalo reported that portions of the Haskell playground are fenced off after poured-in-place surface tests returned head injury readings above 1,000 HIC against an 850 threshold, with repairs covered under warranty. Chair Mara Huston pushed back on Community Preservation Committee suggestions that Broadacres precede Davis: "We have decided that Davis is a higher priority to build than Broadacre. Period." Design estimates run $1.7 million for Davis and $3.2 million for Broadacres.
