Sudbury opens Sewataro for the season, schedules Haskell, Smile upgrades
SUDBURY — Town Hall is leaning into early summer, with public access now open seven days a week at the Camp Sewataro property, a kickoff celebration set for Thursday evening, and newly detailed plans for restroom and playground work at Haskell Field this summer.
TOWN HALL
The town manager's office confirmed that the Camp Sewataro/Liberty Lane property is open to the public dawn to dusk, seven days a week. A "Springtime at Sewataro" event is scheduled for Thursday, June 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. as a community welcome to the seasonal use period.
The town has also outlined upgrades at Haskell Field and Smile Playground, funded through the Community Preservation Act. Construction is expected to last about three weeks beginning in late July or early August. The work covers a restroom renovation at Haskell and equipment improvements at Smile Playground.
Saturday brings the Locally Grown Sudbury Farmer's Market & Fair, running 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 6 at the Fairbank Community Center. The latest edition of The Sudbrief, the town's monthly roundup, is also out for May.
SCHOOLS
The Sudbury School Committee met Monday, June 1, with the agenda packet posted to the district site that day. Notice of the meeting went out May 28.
The district pushed out a notice about an upcoming EV webinar on June 1, and is also promoting an adaptive rail trail ride for participants on Saturday, June 6 — a HOPEsudbury-aligned community event flagged through the schools' channels. Families should note an early release day Wednesday, June 3, which also doubles as Kindergarten Orientation across the elementary schools.
Looking ahead on the K-8 calendar: the last day of school is set for Tuesday, June 23, with an early-release last day on Thursday, June 18 and no school on Juneteenth, Friday, June 19. Loring's last day is Monday, June 22.
