Sudbury CPC rejects Parkinson Field driveway project, advances two field designs

SUDBURY — January 14, 2026 — Sudbury CPC unanimously kills $1.4 million Parkinson Field driveway and parking project. Members voted 9-0 against the construction request on Jan. 14 after project manager Marcia reported that the abutting Ty Sales business had refused any easement to allow an exit drive, leaving the existing 20-foot Hudson Road access unresolved. Member Daniel E. Carty called the driveway question a "showstopper"; Vice Chair Sam Markuse cited "the uncertainty around it." The committee then voted 9-0 to recommend $214,000 for design and permitting at Broadacre Farm and Featherland Park and 8-0 with Chair Sherrill Cline abstaining to recommend $122,000 for Davis Field design. Members also approved $270,000 for Sudbury Valley Trustees applicant Andy Sheehan to build accessible connections and a 250-foot boardwalk from the Mass Central Rail Trail to Memorial Forest and the Hop Brook Marsh Reservation, with Markuse the lone dissent. Warrant article language was approved for six additional FY27 items, including $71,000 for art installations along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail.
