Select Board accepts scout-project list, defers Pod Meadow pond naming

WAYLAND — June 8, 2026 — Wayland Select Board punts on Pod Meadow pond name, circulates scout-project menu. The five-member board met remotely June 8 and took no formal votes on either open-session item. Chair Carol B. Martin presented a suggestion list from resident Kay Gardner-Westcott — covering an outdoor classroom, a First Responders' Memorial Garden at the Safety Building, cemetery cleanup at markers dating to 1843 and a K-9 agility course for police comfort dog Archie — and Management Analyst Jailyn Bratica offered to build a dedicated webpage modeled on Lexington's. On a March 24 resident proposal to name the large Pod Meadow pond "Pod Meadow Pond," member William Whitney said, "I still would like a public process on it before we make a decision," and Town Manager Michael McCall warned that named landmarks can prove hard to make "stick." The board adjourned at 3:51 p.m. after a roughly 30-minute personnel executive session with KP Law's David Jenkins.
