Sawyer Announces Candidacy for Westford Select Board's One-Year Seat
WESTFORD — April 6, 2026 — Elizabeth Sawyer is seeking the one-year seat on the Westford Select Board in the May 5 town election. Sawyer, a Westford resident of nearly 30 years and 25-year member of the Westford Recycling Commission, made her case at the April 6 Select Board meeting, citing more than two decades at IBM, a current role as program coordinator for the Massachusetts Water Works Association, and hands-on local volunteer work including the Junk in the Trunk Corps gifting exchange. She described Westford as facing a moment where "expenses exceed revenue, costs are climbing, and major investments are on the horizon," and identified financial efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and transparent communication as her top priorities. As a concrete example of her approach, she described restructuring the town's household hazardous waste collection program to move it from a biennial to an annual event while cutting costs, partly by shifting a printed flyer into a vendor-funded recycling guide at no cost to the town.
