Natick sets July 4 Common picnic, June 20 Juneteenth event
NATICK — Town Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday previewed two of the season's marquee gatherings on the Common — a June 20 Juneteenth celebration and a July 4 community picnic tied to the nation's 250th birthday — and asked residents to help shape what topics the town's FlashVote survey tool tackles next.
TOWN HALL
Town staff are inviting residents to suggest future topics for the FlashVote five-question survey, which the town has used for more than a year on questions ranging from major capital projects to the color of the Town Common gazebo. The pitch, posted Tuesday afternoon, casts the tool as a low-friction way to register an opinion without sitting through a meeting.
Juneteenth in Natick is set for Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Natick Common, overlapping with the Natick Farmers Market. Organizers are promising speeches, food vendors, activities for kids and live music.
The town also rolled out plans for the July 4 Community Picnic on the Common, billed as a tie-in to the nation's 250th birthday. The lineup includes music, games and a children's parade open to decorated wagons, bikes, strollers and wheelchairs.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
Memphis soul-and-blues band Southern Avenue is booked at The Center for Arts in Natick on June 20, an event surfaced through commercial coverage this week (see below). It is the same Saturday as the Juneteenth gathering on the Common, giving downtown a full day of programming.
